Soils and Arts Orchestras

The SOILSCAPE Symphony is an innovative initiative aimed at enhancing soil literacy across Europe by building a sustainable network of eight Soils and Arts Orchestras, involving over 440 multidisciplinary organisations. Through artistic expression, this network raises awareness about soil and encourages action, engaging European citizens and professionals with the importance of soil. Among the key activities for each Orchestra are the Soil Festivals, featuring interactive workshops, art exhibitions, educational session, and hackathons for developing soil-themed games and projects. The festivals will be held in two editions – two pilot ones  in France and Portugal in 2026, followed by a full rollout in 2027 across all Soils and Arts Orchestra countries (Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland), engaging thousands of participants from Europe and beyond.

What Is a Soils and Arts Orchestra ?

Each Soils and Arts Orchestra brings together a small, diverse group of 15 to 30 orgnisations from across the funders and financial supporters; soil scientists and trainers, teachers; artists & CCI’s (Cultural and Creative Industries); political support; cultural venues – Medias and communication specialist; others stakeholder groups. Together, they will:

– Design and carry out creative, artistic and interdisciplinary projects related to soil knowledge and preservation, including the organisation of Soil Festivals
– Increase soil literacy among Soil Orchestra members and local communities
– Participate in national and European exchanges among members of the eight Soil Orchestras
– Contribute to the broader objective of anchoring soil culture in the cultural life of the country

What is a community working band ?

This group will collaborate with the Soil Orchestra, support its initiatives and benefit from access to project updates, invitations to events and future opportunities for involvement at both national and European levels.

This way, your voice, expertise and creativity can still contribute meaningfully to spread soil literacy.
