SoilTribes – Establishing, activating, and empowering glocal ecosystems to restore soil values, roles, and connectivity through science, technology, and creative expression.
The SoilTribes project aims at fostering a deep-rooted connection between society and soil, paving the way towards inspiring “back to Earth” narratives and empowering diverse communities to engage in soil stewardship through a shared language, knowledge base, and collective action. The project recognizes that healthy soils are fundamental to food security, climate resilience, and biodiversity, yet they are increasingly threatened by climate change, intensive agriculture, urbanization, and other human-driven pressures. By building multi-actor communities, SoilTribes seeks to bridge scientific knowledge with art and cultural narratives, policy frameworks, and innovative practices to drive sustainable soil management and conservation.

CURIOSOIL
CURIOSOIL focuses on enhancing soil education, addressing the critical need for a better understanding of soil amid increasing human pressures on this essential resource.
The project, funded by the European Union and led by the University of Aveiro (Portugal), aims to deepen public comprehension of soil dynamics, establishing a connection between individuals and soil using hands-on experiences.
CURIOSOIL works collaboratively with partners from across Europe to develop educational products, curriculum standards, and teacher training programmes to promote a higher uptake and diffusion of good soil practices.
HUMUS
As part of the EU Mission Soil, the Healthy Municipal Soils (HuMUS) project engages and activates municipalities and regions to protect and restore soil health. Municipalities are at the forefront of local soil management, regulation, innovation, and community-building and thus are pivotal to deploying the Soil Mission on the ground. In addition to raising awareness about the importance of healthy soils – the basis of all human economies – the project empowers communities to create suitable local solutions for themselves.
Using a trans-disciplinary approach and a multi-stakeholder methodology for planning and coordinating local production and consumption, HuMUS stimulates social innovation. The participatory approach involves diverse stakeholders: citizens, farmers, landowners and land managers, consumers, civil society organizations, research institutions, businesses, and public authorities at the regional and national levels. The focus of the project is holistic soil health, looking beyond only agricultural soil to all types of soil and land use.

FOODCITY BOOST – a trailblazing project that will help develop the tools to turn urban jungles into lush, green, food-producing hubs!
We imagine cities where rooftops, balconies, and even vertical spaces are bursting with greenery and fresh produce. This is the future that FOODCITYBOOST is planting seeds for, whilst tackling the major contemporary difficulties such as: climate change, biodiversity loss, and the great divide between urban, peri-urban, and rural areas.
FOODCITYBOOST doesn’t limit itself to growing produce on rooftops or herbs on windowsill; it’s about revolutionizing how we, as society, think about and engage with urban spaces. With an urgent call to action for policymakers and city-dwellers alike, FOODCITYBOOST will develop a decision support tool, which is a sophisticated guide packed with evidence-based indicators and policy wisdom to make urban agriculture not just a novelty but a necessity for sustainable city living. This is further supported with our knowledge hub, making urban agriculture material easily and readily available to all that are interested!
