The French Soil Science Society (AFES), created in 1934, is a learned society that brings together all those interested in the various aspects of soil science: researchers, teachers, students, technicians, farmers and any member of civil society whose activities are related to soil science. 

 

As coordinator, we aim to create perennial, interconnected communities at European level in 8 countries. Our objective is to create the right conditions for this dialogue between scientific and artistic stakeholders to find new ways of raising awareness among as many people as possible of the importance of better understanding and preserving soils. We are proud to lead this project and make it last overtime after 2028.

Cologne Game Lab

The Cologne Game Lab (CGL) of the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences offers several study programs, develops digital games and researches interactive content.  

 

Through research projects like Greening Games and STRATEGIES, CGL is invested in the link between digital games and the environment. SOILSCAPE offers a unique perspective on soils and their place in art, culture, and games, which will be explored via hackathons across Europe in relation to soil trails and soil literacy.

The German Soil Science Society (DBG) is a scientific organization with around 2000 members, dedicated to advancing soil science research and promoting awareness of soil-related issues.  

 

The SOILSCAPE project helps the DBG bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding by transforming complex soil science into accessible language and creative, artistic expressions. Through these innovative approaches, the project enhances societal awareness of the importance of soils and inspires greater commitment to soil protection.

International Centre for Research in Agroforesty

CIFOR-ICRAF is a non-profit science institution using trees, forests, and agroforestry landscapes to address global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security through innovative research, partnerships, and policy engagement.

 

ICRAF investigates international funding motivations, co-designs research frameworks, and links soil initiatives to enhance global soil health efforts. It also supports the development of a Soil Individual Impact Calculator and designs policy recommendations for soil restoration and preservation.

Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (LUT University) – one of the top universities in the world for climate action – is a public science university in Finland, bringing together the fields of technology, business and social sciences. 

 

LUT’s strategic choices, scientific research, academic education and social interaction are all guided by the principles of ecological, economic and social sustainability, and we at LUT believe that SOILSCAPE responds in a novel and effective way to the challenging aim of improving soil literacy and soil health that are vital for sustainability.
