The National Soil Study Days (JNES), created in 1989 by Michel-Claude Girard (then secretary general of the AFES), have been transformed into the Soil Study Days (JES) and have become a major event for all French-speaking people interested in soils, regardless of their discipline or field of study. These meetings, which take place every two years, provide an opportunity to present work on all topics related to soils, including those from the social sciences.
The JES are an opportunity for young people to present their work and for practitioners to share their experience.
Soil Study Days 2025: the meeting place for French-speaking researchers and practitioners
The 17th Soil Study Days (JES 2025) will take place in Geneva from 7 to 11 July 2025 at the HEPIA premises. These JES are open to all researchers and practitioners working in the field of pedology. These JES 2025 are organised by the Geneva School of Landscape, Engineering and Architecture (HEPIA) and the French Association for Soil Studies in close collaboration with the Swiss Soil Science Society.
The main theme for this edition is: ‘Soils, functions and transition’.
Given recent developments related to the state of soils and their functioning from a biophysical, legal and socio-political perspective, we propose to focus these days on the importance of soils and their functions in our daily lives, as well as methods for their sustainable assessment, monitoring and management in a society in transition. A special focus on creative and artistic awareness-raising tools will also be on the programme for this 17th edition.
