How can UNESCO-designated sites and creative, community-led initiatives work together to advance soil literacy? This question was at the heart of the “Engaging UNESCO Communities in Soil Literacy” information session, held on 15 June 2026 and organised by UNESCO and REFRAME.FOOD as part of the SOILSCAPE project.
The online event brought together representatives of UNESCO-designated sites in Europe and the Mediterranean and coordinators of SOILSCAPE sub-projects. Participants exchanged knowledge, showcased inspiring practices and explored opportunities for collaboration to promote soil awareness through art, culture, education and community engagement. The article presents the key discussions and outcomes of the session, demonstrating how these new practices are helping to strengthen soil literacy across UNESCO communities and beyond.
