From soil to games: creativity takes root in SOILSCAPE Hackathons

As part of the SOILSCAPE activities, we are organizing hackathons, also known as game jams. These are open and free game-making competitions encouraging participants to create interactive software on the topic of soil. Everyone from beginners to experts in software development, art, and soil sciences are welcome to join.

Two of these events have already taken place in Portugal and in France, with another eight coming up in the coming months.

Featured Games

The game Terry won the French hackathon, charming the jury with its warm and expressive illustrations and detailed underground gameplay.

Jornada do Solo  won the Portuguese hackathon thanks to its accessible platforming gameplay featuring engaging levels and enemies representing threats to soil health.

Harvest, created during the Portuguese hackathon, gets an honorable mention for its robust systemic play and appealing audiovisual style.

Play these games and more on the project’s  itch.io  page here: https://soilscape.itch.io/

We are proud of all games submitted and enjoyed working with participants across the first hackathons. Please stay tuned for our upcoming competitions. We look forward to playing your games!
